After a hundred or so days with his new guardian Herman decided that he was comfortable enough to dig in and sleep outside his tree stump. He wasn’t fully at ease, though, so he decided to tuck in beside his soft, plastic cacti. That way he had something to cuddle his head against while he waited for the guardian to come home and feed him dinner.
On mornings like today, Herman longed for lush fields of dandelions and sun-warmed soil to wiggle his toes in. The guardian wished for this as well, and so they were a melancholy pair.
