Herman appreciated some variety in his life. He found that once favoured leaves like escarole and endive would suddenly lose their appeal. Carrots, once a fun challenge, became boring and pedestrian. But after a break, he always returned to his favourites with renewed interest, and he found that his return to the guardian with the camera and the dog was no different. Perhaps he didn’t miss the barking dog so much, but he quite enjoyed the head rubs and chin scratches that he got after a photo session and was happy to be home once again.
