Chinook winds had been blowing in from the west for the past couple of days, and combined with the sunny days, the outside world was heating up Herman’s home to the point where the guardian was concerned. So a window was opened a bit to allow for cool air to circulate. Herman wasn’t too concerned about the temperature himself, as a grasslands tortoise he was built for warm weather. But with the window open he could hear traffic now, some construction going on and, most surprising of all, birds singing. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing and spent some time sitting outside his tree stump listening to their songs.
