The day began in the usual way, with a morning meal consisting of bean sprouts, shredded carrots and collard greens. Since it was sunny outside Herman skipped the basking pond and found a warm, bright spot to lie in. However, when he woke up from his nap in the sunlight, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was missing, something important, but he couldn’t imagine what it could be. Disturbed, he walked up the wood chip mound, looked into his pond and found it full of fresh water. Satisfied that the pond wasn’t the problem, he walked over to his food area, and there were still bean sprouts and carrots in the bowl. As he looked around, it suddenly occurred to him what was wrong. There was no kale or collard greens hanging from the wall of his home! It was always by the colourful poster, but today that patch of green was gone. Herman felt this required further investigation so he approached the area and looked for clues. He looked low, he looked high, but it was clear that for some reason the greens simply weren’t there today. His concern did not go unnoticed by the guardian and to his great satisfaction, collard greens were soon returned to their place on the wall.
